ABOUT SAFE LANDS FORESTRY
Generational Forestry Experience
Founded in 2008 by Flathead Native Tai Foley, Safe Lands Forestry is rooted in a lifelong connection to the forests of Northwest Montana. Tai’s family legacy in the lumber industry dates back to his grandfather’s company, F.K.& L., which cleared much of the forest behind Hungry Horse Dam before its completion in 1953. His father continued that tradition, passing down a deep respect for forest stewardship and responsible land management.
With more than 25 years of wildland firefighting experience alongside Glacier National Park and the U.S. Forest Service, Tai spent four years with the Flathead Hotshots and 15 years operating fire engines and equipment on wildland fires. This firsthand experience provides a strong foundation in forest health, wildfire mitigation, and responsible land management.
Specializing in fuels reduction, low impact cut-to-length logging, and forest stand management, Safe Lands Forestry works closely with landowners to balance their vision for the land with the long-term health, safety, and vitality of the forest. Every project is an opportunity to create a healthier, more resilient landscape that supports a thriving ecosystem for generations to come.

OUR SERVICES

Safe Lands Forestry utilizes smaller, purpose-built equipment to efficiently manage projects while minimizing ground disturbance and damage to residual trees.
WILDFIRE FUELS MITIGATION
The process reducing vegetation and other combustible materials (ladder fuels) that can contribute to the spread and intensity of wildfires. This includes removing dead trees, fallen branches, brush, and excess vegetation to create safer landscapes, protect property, and improve forest health.
CUT TO LENGTH LOGGING
Timber harvesting method in which selected trees are felled, limbed, and cut into specific log lengths on site before being transported to mill. This process improves handling efficiency, reduces waste, and can minimize soil disturbance. By chipping or burning the remaining branches and tops we return nutrients back into the forest.
FOREST STAND MANAGEMENT
Maintaining and improving your forest to promote health, growth, and sustainability. It involves activities such as thinning, selective harvesting, species management, and removing diseased or overcrowded trees to improve forest structure, biodiversity, and resilience.
